born in 1609 in Rakek, Slovenia. The town is near Cerknica, where most
Mekindas eventually settled. Other early Mekindas are: Mekinda Andrej, born
in 1644 in Rakek; Mekinda Jurij born in 1651 in Cerknica, and Mekinda Neža,
born in 1679 in Cerknica.

West Africa must have appeared after colonization in the 19th century. Known
records of Mekinda in Cerknica go to the 17th century. The name
Mekinda is very prominent in Senegal, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast. Members of the Mekinda family have traveled to

January 16, 1777 in Cerknica. He was married to Ursula Milavec, born January
16, 1779 in Jakovca, and died November 8, 1840. His descendants were born in
Martinjak near Cerknica and Rakek.
